Engage with Nashville
When students join the community on The Commons, they also join the Nashville community. Through intentional service and programming, The Commons provides students with opportunities to become a part of the growing and thriving city they will now call home.
Integral to the process of becoming an engaged citizen, is an understanding of the value of serving our community. The Vanderbilt community has a particularly strong tradition in service and community engagement.
Each house has a service commissioner who will work to help you connect to opportunities that interest you. Service commissioners also coordinate service activities for students in each house; these events are times when students can get to know one another better while also serving the community. Some of the local organizations that our service commissioners have worked with in the past include: Dismas House, Project Cure, Thistle Farms, Operation Gratitude, and Casa Azafrán.
