2015-2016 CLC Programs

"DefenDores" - November 2015

Featuring representatives from the Vigilance Group, this program included a practical self-defense lesson.  

"Thanksgiving Food Drive" - November 2015

This food drive to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank collected over 220 pounds of non-perishable side items from the Common Grounds market. 

"Galaxy Gala" - February 2016

The ten House presidents presented the annual ball with a galaxy inspired theme, complete with ornate food and desserts, stargazing, laser tag, and a grand ballroom. The theme of the ball changes every year depending on what the presidents can dream up.  For more on the Commons Winter Ball, click here.

"Red, White, and VU" - February 2016

All Commons residents were invited to learn more about the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election, the candidates, register to vote, and participate in a straw poll.  Faculty from the department of Political Science were on hand to help answer questions. 

"There's No Place Like Home" - April 2016

Sponsored by the House service commissioners, this mini-week of service focused on raising awareness and tackling the issue of homelessness in the Nashville community. Events included a weeklong supply drive to benefit Open Table Nashville, a screening of Tent City USA, a crepe-making fundraiser, and a guest lecture from Lindsey Krinks of Open Table Nashville.

"End of the Year Block Party" - April 2016

While not solely responsible for this event, the CLC assisted in the planning and production of the annual end-of-year celebration.  This year's celebration included a food trucks, massages, inflatables, DJ music, and a photo booth.  The House service commissioners also incorporated their service program into this event. Service projects were completed for various organizations including: Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, Open Table Nashville, Red Cross, and Room in the Inn.
