The Places

The Commons is an almost completed campus-within-a-campus for first-year students and residential faculty. It will open for the Class of 2012. There are ten first-year residences, called Houses, each home to an average of 165 students living mainly in double rooms. Each House will be led by a distinguished faculty member of the University residing there as the Faculty Head of House. All spaces, both real and virtual, on The Commons – eleven new seminar classrooms, wireless computer technology, quads and lawns, comfortable residence hall gathering spaces – encourage community. A new Commons Center serves as both town square and state-of-the-art dining facility. The Dean’s Residence is both a comfortable family home and a crossroads for guests from the Commons, the University, and the many communities connected to Vanderbilt.
