LEED Certification

leaf photo

The Commons Center is a LEED certified building, which means it is a Green Building.

Dialogue with students over the past several years and the evolution of the LEED process inspired Vanderbilt to undertake LEED certification for new construction of The Commons.

The Commons project will construct 5 new residence halls and a dining center on Vanderbilt's Peabody campus. The first two of the five new houses were occupied in fall of 2006 and have been submitted for LEED certification. The remaining three, the dining hall, and an existing residence hall undergoing a total renovation, are on the LEED track with Vanderbilt's goal being to have 7 LEED-certified facilities by 2008.

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). For more information, visit http://www.usgbc.org/.
